What's NEW?

Canada Customs Revenue Agency, formerly Revenue Canada Customs and Excise, have introduced A.M.P.S. This new system in brief, is Canada Customs mandate to review importers for proper documentation.

This review can be and will be costly to the importers if they are not prepared for this Customs Audit.

The purpose of this audit is to ensure that importers have properly declared and duty paid their Customs Clearances.

With the introduction and greater use of electronic documentation, importers are more vulnerable to costly assessments as result of Canada Customs audits.

The following are the key areas of Customs Audit and the importers "Achilles Heel".

(1) NAFTA CERTIFICATES MISSING FOR EACH SHIPMENT.

(2) FORM "A" CERTIFICATES OF ORIGIN MISSING FOR EACH SHIPMENT.

(3) IMPROPER TARIFF CLASSIFICATION ON EACH SHIPMENT.

(4) IMPROPER VALUE FOR DUTY ON EACH SHIPMENT.

(5) NON DECLARATION OF SAMPLES, MISSING INVOICES, SHIPMENTS NOT CLEARED.

Considering the combination of electronic data releasing, increased import flow, reduction of Customs personel, paper reduction and fast track clearance systems, the importer is now more vulnerable than ever before. Add, the C.C.R.A. implementation of A.M.P.S. and the recipe is perfect for distaster.
